Pulling Weeds

Brett and the girls have been pulling weeds lately every Saturday. It isn't the kids' most favorite thing but we usually reward them with something afterwards if they get it done (Seven Peaks, shakes, or a treat). There is always a lot of drama and complaining but they eventually get it done. Brett ends up doing a lot of it himself but they do their fair share for little kids. I remember we used to have to do this as kids and I hated every minute of it. I think my parents heard the same amount of drama and complaining that we now hear with our kids.

The BIG 30!

Yes, it is true - I have FINALLY turned 30. A friend of mine once said when she was turning 30 (and having a hard time) it was going to be hard for her to no longer be a "twa" and be a "tha" instead. I thought that day would never come. But now I must admit 30 doesn't seem too old, right? I think 40 is starting to look a lot older. I also hear that from here on out you are always 29.

Well, I had a great birthday even if I turned 30. It started out with Whytli making me breakfast. She asked me the night before what I wanted. She knew that I am not a huge fan of breakfast and there are very few things that I like. I do like toast and eggs (but with the yoke fully cooked). She really wanted to make my birthday special and got up earlier than me and started making it. When I woke up she told me that I could not get out of bed until she was done. Brett made me a shake (my favorite - I know they are not very healthy but who cares). When breakfast was all done she cleaned up the kitchen all by herself (unloaded the dishwasher, reloaded it, wiped the counter, and swept.) It was really cute. They were very happy to be extra special and good for me. I think that was my favorite part of the whole day. Whytli and Adelie also made me special birthday cards.

My mom made milanesas for a lunch with all my sisters. My family bought me some clothes from Buckle (one of my favorite stores). This was the first year when asked what I wanted I just told everyone to surprise me. I usually always know what I am getting for my birthday, Christmas, etc. so I decided it was time for a surprise. I usually tell Brett what I want to do as well but didn't really this year so it was all up to him. Well that night he came home earlier than usual and he asked if I wanted to go to dinner to Texas Roadhouse (one of my new favorites). Lacey had come and gotten my girls and told me she was taking them to New Haven to do a puppet show with a girl from there. I asked Brett what we were going to do about the kids and he said he didn't want to take them and that Lacey could keep them for the night. I felt a little bad because they really wanted to spend the day with me and would feel bad if we went without them. When we got there I told the waitress that we had 2 with a baby. When she took us to our seat Brett told her he didn't want to sit there, he wanted to sit somewhere else and took off to where he wanted to sit. The waitress and I just gave him this look wondering who the heck he thought he was picking his own spot to sit. Then I saw 3 big screen TVs with sports playing and thought he wanted to sit so he could watch them and I have to admit I was a little annoyed. But then he went to the back of the restaurant and his whole family was there (with my kids) and they yelled surprise. It was definitely a big shock. Brett and his family got me a new camera that I desperately needed.

Kellye asked me if I wanted to go get pedicures with her and Shannon for my birthday on Saturday. We went and got them and it was a lot of fun. While I was there Brett called me and told me to pick up a movie he wanted to watch from Kellye's house. When we got there Shannon's car and truck were both there, along with a few of my family members' cars in front of my mom's house. Shannon said, "I wonder what is going on at your mom's house." I did not think anything was strange about that - everyone is always there visiting. But what I thought was strange was both of Shannon's vehicles being at Kellye's. When I asked her why they were both there she tried to tell me that the car was not hers - she drove her truck. I said that it was too her car and she told me that it was green not blue. I knew that was not true and she fought me about it and insisted her truck was all she drove but I knew that was not right but I thought whatever (still not suspecting a thing). When we got into Kellye's house to get the movie Jon was standing at the door and pushes me through into his basement and my whole family was there and they all yelled surprise. Yet another birthday surprise. We ate dinner and hung out with everyone and had a great time. I had no idea about any of the surprises for my birthday. Maybe everyone was just trying to help me forget that I was turning 30.

I am so glad I have such a great husband, kids, family, and friends who made my birthday such a great day. Thanks for all the calls and gifts that I got. I don't know what I would do without my great family and friends.

I look really great first thing in the morning. I am reading the special cards my kids made me.

Whytli making me breakfast. This is her first time cooking eggs. She did a great job.

Carrie made raspberry rolls as my cake (since I don't like cake) and if you notice there are 35 candles (thanks Jon). I was able to blow them all out in one try. I'm not so old after all.

They make you get onto this saddle and yell to everyone in the restaurant that it is your birthday. They told everyone how old I was and then sang to me.

24th of July (Pioneer Day)

July has always been my favorite month ever since I was a kid. There are many great things about the month of July. First of all it is summer, then you have the 4th of July, my birthday (the 23rd), and the 24th of July. I love how busy July always is and how there is so much to do. When I was younger the Fiesta Days celebrations were my favorite. I always thought that the whole town was celebrating my birthday over a few days of celebrations. It used to make Carrie so mad and jealous because she did not like it that everyone was celebrating my birthday. My mom used to tell me that the parade was just for me too. I always went to the rodeo for my birthday, the sidewalk sales, carnival, and of course all the booths down at the park. I have always loved everything about it.

Now that I am older it isn't quite as exciting as it was when I was a kid but I still love the month of July. And I love to see how excited my kids get when we do some of the things that I always did. We always make it to the carnival and parade. I'm not quite a fan of the rodeo any more and don't feel bad to miss out on that.

This year we went to the parade at the last minute with my kids. They wanted to go, then they didn't, and then they decided they did after all about 20 minutes before it started so we had to quickly get them ready before it was time to go. They had a great time watching everything. The parade just isn't as cool as I used to think it was but they seemed to enjoy themselves so I guess that is all that matters. Whytli had a good time taking pictures of every float that passed by with her new camera that I gave her (my old one). It was soooo hot. When we got home we decided to watch a movie with the kids and then take a nap afterwards. Later that night we went to Brett's Grandma & Grandpa Parry's for a barbecue. Usually we go to a barbecue with my family at my grandma's (it has been a tradition for years). But since it has been a long time since his Grandma has had anything at her house we decided to go there instead. It was fun hanging out with his family. The kids enjoyed playing with their cousins. We played games after (things can get pretty intense playing games with Grandma Parry).

Mallory was giving a princess a hug.

Joseph held Nash the whole time during the parade. He started liking Joseph's arm and then fell asleep like this.

We used to sit at my Uncle Vic's shop on main street but now sit by Janet's house instead. It isn't quite as crowded with everyone there.

Carnival

We went to the carnival tonight with most of my siblings, their children, and some of Brett's family as well. We always go to the carnival that comes to town for the 24th of July. The first night of the carnival is always called Family Night and all the rides require only one ticket (tickets cost $1). We have been doing this every year since Whytli was one and this was for sure the busiest year yet. We saw tons of friends there who had the same idea. The kids had a lot of fun going on the rides with their cousins. They look forward to this every year. Adelie, Mallory, Pieper, and Gwyn went on a lot of the rides together. Brett, Whytli, Parker, and Alex went on a bunch of the bigger kid rides. I stayed with the younger kids so I was not able to get any pictures of Brett and Whytli on the bigger rides.

Grandpa Joel, Colten, Gwyn, Whytli, Brett, Nash, Adelie and Mallory. Joel bought this funky light thing that went on his teeth. He thought it was pretty funny to smile at the kids. He got some pretty good reactions out of them.

This is Max my nephew. He is adorable! I love his curly blonde hair.

They were putting up their hands while going on this ride.

Nash slept a lot of the time. He had his 4 month shots today so he was a little sad but still did really well.

Harrison, Creed, and Parker. Creed loved this ride. He was laughing most of the time. When he got off he said, "Again! Again!"

Mallory did not want to go unless her dad went with her.

Whytli, Kynli, and Alex. This is the dragon roller coaster, the favorite ride of my kids and most of the rest of the kids.

Adelie and Adriana.

Tyme and Tymber - our friends' kids. They are also our neighbors.

Horseback Riding in the Canyon

The girls went horseback riding with Brett's family in the canyon last Friday. Brett's parents, Grandpa and Grandma Parry, Bryce, Liz and kids, and Colten and Melissa and Gwyn were all there. Brett, Nash, Spencer and I did not go. We got tickets from our friend to go see the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight (it was excellent!). We wish we could have been with his family as well. The kids said they had a great time. They all took turns riding the horse, cooked tin foil dinners, and roasted marshmallows and made smores out of them. They enjoy hanging out with their cousins SaraAnn and Gwyn.

Mallory and Gwyn having a great time. Apparently Mallory wasn't too sure about going horseback riding but it looks like she is enjoying herself here.

Whytli holding Morris (Lacey's dog). I guess Grandma is watching him (he is Kellen and Lacey's baby).
