A-Fib Update

Last week we went to Dr. Hwang to find out about what he wanted to do. He seemed a little annoyed that the emergency room shocked Brett's heart without trying some medicine first to get it back to its normal rhythm. He was surprised that it did happen again and said it wasn't supposed to after about a 3 month window after the surgery. He gave Brett some pills called Rythmol SR. He wants him to keep one with him at all times. If it ever happens again he wants him to take one immediately and then wait 4 hours. If after the 4 hours he is still having the A-Fib he wants him to go to the ER immediately. He then wants Brett to call him and come in to see him. At that point they will talk about possibly attempting the catheter ablation again. He seems to think that it shouldn't happen again but he wants to wait it out and see if it does before he decides to do anything serious.

During the appointment I asked Dr. Hwang if Brett's problem is hereditary, to which he answered that it was. He said that it is very possible that our children could have the same problem, but we do not need to worry about it until they are are into their teens. For some reason, smaller hearts will not fibrillate. So finding out that news was kind of a bummer but I am glad to know it now so we can make sure to watch out for it later on with the kids.

Isn't it such a blessing that doctors know so much now and have things they can do to easily treat things like this. And also that the dr. told you it's hereditary and to watch for it in your kids. Now you know what to do if they have any problems in the future. I'm glad that he is okay and doing well.

Hope things keep going okay for him, and that he doesn't have any more troubles! That's good that there are pills to help, though, instead of taking drastic measures whenever it happens (if it does again)! Good luck!

It sounds like you found a great doctor. Hopefully, your kids won't end up having the same thing! Thanks for the update, and funny video of Nash.
